Hi All!
In this guide I will be going over modding families. This is important to understand as you interact with other players in the game, as a lot of these are either not explained well or have been made up by the community. This is not meant to be a fully comprehensive guide on every mod in the game, but rather is meant to be a reference for the most commonly mentioned mod families. Feel free to use ctrl + F to find what you are looking for! Here are the following categories I will be explaining:
-60/60 Mods
-Acolyte Mods
-Amalgam Mods
-Ammo Mutation Mods
-Augment Mods
-Bane Mods
-Corrupted Mods
-Drift Mods (Lua Mods)
-Galvanized Mods
-Primed Mods
-Set Mods

60/60 Mods:
60/60 mods are what the the community refers to mods that give 60% elemental damage and 60% status chance as. Every weapon type has access to each of the 4 base elements.

Acolyte Mods:
Acolyte mods refer to mods that have powerful effects that only activate when a condition is met (the three conditions are ON HEADSHOT, WHILE AIMING, or, for melee, the mod scales with the combo counter). Originally they were called this because Acolytes would drop these mods during special in game events. While this is no longer the case, the term is still used, especially by older veterans. The list includes:
-Argon Scope -Bladed Rounds
-Blood Rush -Catalyzer Link
-Guided Ordnance -Laser Sight -Nano-Applicator -Narrow Barrel
-Repeater Clip -Shrapnel Shot
-Spring-Loaded Chamber
-Weeping Wounds

Amalgam Mods:
Amalgam mods are mods that have slightly weaker main effect, but also have second effect with it. Many of these mods are weapon specific, but some of them are universal to their weapon type. The universal ones are:
-Amalgam Barrel Diffusion
-Amalgam Organ Shatter
-Amalgam Serration
-Amalgam Shotgun Spazz

The weapon specific ones are:
-Amalgam Argonak Metal Auger
-Amalgam Daikyu Target Acquired
-Amalgam Furax Body Count
-Amalgam Ripkas True Steel

Ammo Mutation Mods:
There are ammo mutation mods for every gun type, which will let you pick up every type of ammo and convert it into usable ammo for your weapon (each one has a primed version as well). Most of the time, however, Vigilante Supplies will be a better choice. The list includes:
-Arrow Mutation
-Pistol Ammo Mutation
-Rifle Ammo Mutation
-Shotgun Ammo Mutation
-Sniper Ammo Mutation
-Vigilante Supplies

Augment Mods:
Augment mods are special mods that enhance or modify a warframe's abilities. They must be equipped to the warframe. A little known fact: if an ability has more than one augment, only one augment can be equipped. There are too many to list here, but they can be obtained from the syndicates for standing. Some augments are also available through Nightwave.

Bane Mods:
Bane mods refer to the mods that give bonus damage based on the faction, so named after the rifle bane mods. Archweapons do not have bane mods, and railjacks only have bane mods for Corpus, Grineer, and Sentients, while all other weapon types have bane mods for Corpus, Grineer, Infested, and Orokin (Corrupted). They are called:
-Bane of ___ (Rifle)
-Cleanse ___ (Shotgun)
-Expel ___ (Secondary)
-Smite ___ (Melee)

Railjack includes:
-Granum's Nemesis (Corpus)
-Sentient Scalpel (Sentients)
-Worm's Torment (Grineer)

Corrupted Mods:
Corrupted mods are found in orokin vaults on Deimos missions. They are identifiable by their high increase in one stat offset by a decrease in another stat. While there are too many too feasibly list here, a lot of them are asked for often!

Drift Mods (Lua):
These mods are obtained by completing special puzzle room on the Lua tile set. I will not be providing a walkthrough of these rooms in this guide, but I will in another! Each of these mods is unique in providing relatively powerful effects from the exilus slot on warframes. They include:
-Agility Drift
-Coaction Drift
-Cunning Drift
-Endurance Drift
-Power Drift
-Speed Drift
-Stealth Drift

Galvanized Mods:
Galvanized mods are upgraded versions of other existing mods acquired from the arbitration offerings for vitus essence. These mods are meant to prepare a player for Steel Path. They include:
-Galvanized Acceleration
-Galvanized Aptitude
-Galvanized Chamber
-Galvanized Diffusion
-Galvanized Hell
-Galvanized Savvy
-Galvanized Scope
-Galvanized Shot

Primed Mods:
Primed mods are pure upgrades from their original counterparts. They are usually obtained from Baro Ki'teer, but some are only obtained as daily tributes (login rewards). Because of the length of the list, I will only lay out the Primed mods that can be obtained as a daily tribute. Please keep in mind that the daily tribute mods cannot be traded. You can choose one of these mods on days 200, 400, 600, and 900. They are:
-Primed Fury (starting at day 200)
-Primed Shred (starting at day 200)
-Primed Sure Footed (starting at day 400)
-Primed Vigor (starting at day 200)

Set Mods:
Set mods are mods that provide additional bonuses that increase the more of the set you have equipped. Ones to take special note of: The Umbral set and the Sacrificial share a unique polarity: Umbra. These forma can only be obtained from special rewards given every once in awhile by DE, or once every 8 weeks from Teshin for 150 steel essence. These sets are obtained by completing the story quest War Within. Also, the Sacrificial set is the only way on your actual frame to mod faction damage against sentients. Below I will list the different sets, but you will have to read my upcoming guide on set mods!

The sets are:
-Aero
-Augur
-Carnis
-Gladiator
-Hunter
-Jugulus
-Mecha
-Motus
-Proton
-Sacrificial
-Saxum
-Strain
-Synth
-Tek
-Umbral
-Vigilante
I hope this was helpful for you and explained what the most common mod families were. The next guide will talk about the set mods and their bonuses, as well as the best applications for them!
